Currently there is a lot of activity in the US around a "shutdown". During the shutdown, which started last weekend, many federal government departments were closed. The shutdown is now over for the time being. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reported that a shutdown (at least temporarily) does not impact their work.
That is because the USPTO has access to the administrative taxes paid over the past year and is therefore able to continue to fund its work for a number of weeks. The problems of the American government therefore have no consequences at this time for your US patent and trademark applications, not even with a potentially new shutdown in February. This also means that applicants must continue to comply with existing deadlines and that payments must be paid on time.
If, in the event of a new shutdown, the USPTO funds come to an end before the American government resumes its normal activities, you will be informed of this as soon as possible.
