EP, NL, BE patent attorney, UPC Representative
Mechanical engineering
Senior patent attorney with a background in mechanical engineering.
Alex handles mainly prosecution (obtaining a patent), opposition (attacking or defending a patent), and infringement cases for clients in various fields and regions. Important cases are those for a world-leading manufacturer of tufting machines, an industry challenger in greenhouse screens, and one of the most exciting keyboard manufacturers.
Alex has acquired several existing, sizeable portfolio’s after the existing counsel was no longer preferred. Most clients appreciate the personal touch evidenced in well-drafted proposals for such cases. The same personal touch is why smaller firms and one-off inventors from de Twente region keep selecting Alex as counsel over others they have interviewed.
Multiple of our firm’s partners have entrusted some of their high profile cases to Alex as working attorney, sometimes urgent oppositions, er even more complex multi-year conflicts. In addition, Alex takes pride in advising some of the rising stars from the Twente area, and some outside.
Alex regularly gives introductory or in-depth talks at client’s office about IP in general and patents specifically. He does guest-lecturing at knowledge institutions too. Some clients have learned so much from working with him, that they were able to in-source some work whilst relying on Alex for keeping advise firmly based on legal principles.
Alex studied mechanical engineering at the University of Twente, and graduated in the granular media group doing a thesis on non-linear wave propagation requiring micro-gravity tests at the German Aerospace Center. At the time he was involved in developing open-source software for robotics, and also set up an in-office website for tracking Foosball rankings. This passion for innovation through technology shines through in his dealings with clients, but also in his seat in committees in our firm that aim at improving our internal processes.
