Profile

Petri enjoys the challenge of working with a client not only to take care of the patent technical aspects of a patent portfolio but also to think strategically about its further development, expansion and maintenance. She has a particular specialisation in plant biotechnology, in particular plant breeding in both horticulture, agriculture and ornamentals. She has been involved in a number of complex cross-border infringement cases in international litigation and opposition cases at the European Patent Office, even up to the Grand Chamber of Appeal (G2/04).

Petri studied Biology at Radboud University Nijmegen and specialised in molecular biology, biochemistry and internal medicine. Since her appointment at Arnold & Siedsma in 1989, she gained extensive experience in grant proceedings, oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office in the fields of plant breeding, biotechnology, pharmacy, food technology, environmental technology, medical sciences, medical devices, diagnostics and contraceptives.

Petri has been involved in building and managing their patent portfolio with a number of clients from the very beginning. To this end, she has intensive contact with Research & Development departments and management. On this basis, she helps determine a company’s patent strategy.

Petri is chairman of the Stichting Beroepsopleiding Octrooigemachtigden and tutor and proofreader for the same course.
