Bastiaan is a Dutch and European patent attorney and has been working at Arnold & Siedsma since 2018.
Before joining Arnold & Siedsma, he graduated cum laude from the Computing Science master’s programme at the University of Groningen. During his master’s, he focused on developing new machine learning techniques. For example, during his research internship he explored new methods for time series classification. In his graduation project, he collaborated with a distribution network operator to bring theory and practice together in a study on the automatic detection of cannabis growing operations at street level using classification on electricity consumption.
Within Arnold & Siedsma, Bastiaan mainly works on inventions in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), software, machine learning and computer-implemented technologies. His technical background and broad knowledge of modern AI methods enable him to quickly understand complex algorithmic and software-based inventions and translate these into legally sound and future-proof patent strategies.
Bastiaan also supports a large number of international clients active in high-tech sectors, advising them on the protection of AI-driven innovations, software applications and digital systems.
